This is a new 999 Emergency Dispatcher lapel pin.
999 is the United Kingdom's and Ireland's official emergency telephone number. It is the world's oldest emergency call service. The 999 service was introduced on 30 June 1937 in the London area, and later nationally. 999 is to be called when you require the police, ambulance service, fire service or coastguard or cave/mountain rescue services. The number is used alongside the EU standard 112.
The number is also used in some Commonwealth countries and former British colonies including Bangladesh, Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore (the rest use a variety of numbers, including 9-1-1). It is also used in Poland, the United Arab Emirates, Macao, Bahrain and Qata.
This pin would be a great addition to any pin collectors collection.
